The weekend before last was the last music night at Wagner Vineyards for the summer! I delayed all summer getting up there to go; and I literally waited all the way up until the last minute to finally get there and experience it. It was worth it!
Each Friday night at 8pm during the summer, Wagner Vineyards, on the beautiful Seneca Lake, hosts a local band out on their deck, and invites the community to come dance, drink, and be merry. It’s a very festive atmosphere and everyone has a good time. The wine tasting is open, as well as the beer tasting; both of which they make right there at the vineyard. For this event, they also have snacks and non-alcoholic drinks, so there’s something for everyone. Some people even bring their kids, so it’s a family affair.
One thing a lot of people do is go to Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards‘ own music night at 5:30 and then head over to Wagner afterwards. It makes for a fun evening of music at two different wineries with two different bands, and from what I can tell, it’s a really good time.
I had a chance to talk with Amy Bush, owner of Dancer’s Alley in Horseheads who has been enjoying Wagner’s music nights for 3 years now. I asked her about the music nights throughout the summer, and how they compared to this special end of the summer event.
How was the crowd last weekend compared to usual? What’s the atmosphere like during these music nights throughout the summer?
This was the biggest crowd I have seen ever. Usually the side parking lot is filled but when they headed down toward the vineyards for parking I knew it was packed! The atmosphere varies depending on artists; different artist bring different crowds. You can always spot the regulars. It is always a good time. I would say it’s an energetic and enthusiastic crowd. Some come to dance, some listen, and some to socialize with friends and family. One of my teachers at the studio comes with her husband and a bunch of her family. Mom, dad, aunt, uncle, brother, cousins, grandparents; quite cute! AND they all dance! I have seen many families with younger children. It is a safe, fun family atmosphere where you can go enjoy music, sip on wine or beer and not be in a “club” atmosphere where you may experience inappropriate behavior for the younger generation. It is a fun filled night of music and dancing with the beautiful lake to gaze upon, making us all aware of what a beautiful area we live in!
Have you ever gone to Hazlitt’s Friday night music before heading over to Wagner like many people do? What’s it like there?
I went one time only last year to Hazlitt before and it was a good start to the night. Unfortunately with my boyfriend’s work schedule we usually don’t make it there but I know many people that enjoy the stop before. When I was there the Hazlitt crowd seemed a little younger and were in a little bit more separated groups.
While this event is over for the summer, I highly recommend you check it out next summer. Who knows, it may become your new favorite summer hot-spot right here in the Finger Lakes!
