The beloved northeastern grocery store Wegmans, based in Rochester, is celebration their 100th birthday this year. For anyone who lives near a Wegmans, you know that it has a cult following, unlike any other grocery store in the country. When a new location opens, people will line up for hours waiting to be among the first to get in. When locals move away, they say one of the things they miss most is their very favorite grocery store. The chain is slowly creeping south, as there are rumors of a new location for the first time in North Carolina. Good news for southerners!
To celebrate their big 1-0-0, Wegmans locations held their version of a birthday party in their stores today. It included cake (the biggest I’ve ever seen!) that they were serving up for happy Wegmans-lovers, samples of different dishes throughout the store, and a giveaway drawing for a $100 gift card.
I tried samples such as cold lo mein salad, teriyaki salmon, black bean salsa and chips, sparkling grape juice, and a greek yogurt green smoothie. They were all so delicious, and it was so fun to turn the corner and see another sample to try!
To me, Wegmans is, and always will be the best grocery store around. From their lunch bar, to their subs and pizza, to their organic section and all of their extra amenities and special touches, they really go above and beyond any other grocery store in the nation. If you’re ever in the northeast visiting, make sure you stop in and see what all the hype is about. I promise – this is a grocery store like no other!
Happy 100th birthday, Wegmans! Here’s to 100 more!
